can a 32 bit repair disk be used on 64 bit systems?

Hi All,

I just created a "Repair Disk Windows 7 32-bit". If
I wanted to repair a 64 bit W7, do I need to create
a new disk from a 64 bit W7 computer?

Since the 32-bit one is about 143 meg and the 64-bit is 165 meg, I'm
going to hazard a guess that no the 32 bit one isn't going to work.

Hi, Todd.

No. There hardware differences between 32-bit and 64-bit that require
different drivers, different DLLs, and plenty of other differences. So we
can't even install Windows x64 if we've booted into Windows x86 - or vice
versa.

They're easy to find. I made one directly from my Windows 7
install, and the other one, I got from the Torrent here. So
I have both "sizes". This download is just for repair, and is
not an installer as such (in case something thought this
had all the gigabytes of data needed to install Windows 7 -
it doesn't).

I meant "Yes", of course. You DO need a 64-bit startup disc. I really
meant no, you can't use that 32-bit disk, but that's not the way the
question was asked.. :>{

Hi Vic,

Over on the Linux side, you have 32 bit, 64 bit, and "noarch".
You use noarch on either.

I was thinking that maybe the "files" were the same.
Eight bit bytes and all. Which is why I asked. I will
make me a separate 64 bit disk.

Yes, is common for most software vendors to release 'exact same media'
under different names, and M$ had done that several times, as a matter
of fact, all 32bit versions of Win7 share the same DVD, except for one
file (EI.cfg), and same for the 64bit versions.
You remove that file and build a new DVD, and can install any version,
as long as you have the KEY for that version. We only need to carry 2
DVD's, not 8.
