Hello,

do I see it right, that C:\Users is on MS Windows, what /home/ is on
Unix? Or does Windows 7 store user data on other places besides C:\Users?

I ask, because I would like to move C:\Users on a TrueCrypt volume and
be sure, all user data will be safe there.

Regards
Malte

That is correct.
That is exactly what /home in Unix is.

Default Windows variable is %userprofile% which is equal to $HOME on
Linux/Unix.

Follow these tutorials.

You can't be sure on either system that every user and every program will
store its data in \User or /home

Backing up \User is a good start, though :-)

I much prefer using image or clone backups, such as Macrium Reflect or
Casper, and backing up the whole drive to an external drive with sufficient
capacity. The paid versions of those programs will do incremental backups,
so they only save newly changed files. That's quicker.

Just keep in mind that the user registry/profile resides in this
folder -- which implies that if you move your profiles to a Truecrypt
volume, your TrueCrypt volume must be mounted and in place before the
user logs on...

Interesting. I was assuming that he meant to put his data on the TrueCrypt
volume as a means of backup; you read it as that he was running from it...

I have no basis to choose between those ideas. Maybe the OP will tell us.
Or perhaps you will prove that I'm wrong :-)
