I've got a mix of antivirus software running on my machines, split evenly between Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 for my main ones and then Avira Free AV for the ones I don't use very often.

As much as I like KIS 2009, I've this series of AV software for quite some time and would be interested to hear your recommendations? Ideally something with a built in firewall and POP3 scanning

Personally I like AVG, the free version is great but the commercial one is even better!

I must admit, I used to use AVG all the time - but it seemed to slow my laptop down much more than Avira (it is only a little 1Ghz machine though )

It's been a while since I've tried AVG so I might have to give it a go and see what the new version is like - it certainly looks better from the screenshots I've seen.

I've got Norton AV running at the moment as it was free with my online bank, it's not as bad as everyone says but I don't think I'll get it again when my subscription runs out!

I use AVG too (the free version), and I've never had a problem. Then again, as it has never detected a virus how do I know if it works

lol, I know exactly what you mean! Same with them all, if they don't detect anything, does that mean nothing is there? Who knows! lol

Ignorance is bliss

Norton has picked up lots of Viruses in e-mails for me, but never an infection on my PC - fingers crossed

I use FProt, and have done for many years now. It seems to be one of the first companies to react to new virus threats and doesn't use up too many system resources. It's not free, but I don't mind paying for something as essential as a Virus scanner.

The built in rootkit detector is also useful (it's called Blacklight, and this part can be downloaded for free if you want).

I have been using NOD32 on my machines for a long time now and the only problem I have had with it is that it seems to slow down the upload speed when you go to a Java speed test site. There seems to be a lag when it is sending. Am using ver 2.70 It seems to work fine and have had no problems with viruses and it is a small footprint also.
