I made the nigration from an XP system to a windows 7 system last
week. I'm hAving problems uninstalling programs. So far I have 3
programs that will not uninstall. The uninstaller immediatly hangs.
Thr process can not be killed. The only way to get control back i to
reboot. I've tried reinstalling these programs but the installer hangs
also. My next step is to get lists of all reg entries and uninstall
manually. Anybody have any ideas? This is really trying my patience
with windows 7.
Any comments or suggestions appriceated.
Tnx,
Dusty

I have always started with a clean install after formatting disk. I
am not sure what you mean by "migration". If you mean installing
software after installing Win7 then start over and install one at a
time. Did you run Windows 7 upgrade advisor?

Depending on each program, you may be able to re-install the program
and then uninstall it. Probably a Google search for each program would
find answers.

There's"uninstall" freeware programs out there for XP but I haven't
needed one for Windows 7 yet.

By "migration" I mean I left the XP machine behind and bought a new 7
system. The only thing I coppied to the new system is my data drive.
(126Gb of music, pictures, vids, Etc. All the programs were installed
"clean"
Tnx for trying

I'm assumming that you think the Revo uninstaller is what I need? Why
is that different? Sorry but after so many decades I don't take
anything at face value, and I still get bugs and stuff. <grin>
Tnx, a bunch, I'll look into it

I found when I first tried Win7 that the deinstall was a bit different, in
that it did not seem to do much - if a thing was tiddly it worked fine
seemingly, but a bigger thing just went dead, taking a few minutes to do
anything. However it was actually doing it, just without any visual
indication.

So I thought that perhaps you are a bit impatient or just hoping to see a
blue bar showing progress or something. and you get a bit worried after
only a couple of minutes. It is worth trying a deinstall and letting it
take its time.

You've gotten some generic answers that may or may not help. For more
specific answers, you might divulge the names of the three unspecified
programs. Perhaps someone else has run into the same situation with
one or more of them and can offer specific help.

I did a little research on the software package mentioned in another
post. It looked reasonable so I downloaded it. Damn if the installer
didn't hang. Based on your reply I didn't touch it. It sat there with
the status bar at 3/4 for a full 15 minutes. Then again, it was hung
and nothing would clear it. The kill process in the task manager did
nothing. Again I had to reboot to get control back. Now I have 3
programs that didn't install and won't uninstall or reinstall. I'm
getting pretty frazzled here. I can't even find any information about
reparing the msie package. Damn I'm starting to hate Windows 7.
Anybody? I'm grasping at anything, help?
Tnx,
Dusty

Have you considered telling the newsgroup *what* these offending
programas are?

How do you know it's Windows and not those programs?

How can anyone help you with totally anonymous programs?
