I tossed AVG about a year ago in favor of MSE.

I respect that you have an opinion. Don't confuse that
respect with really giving a crap what it is.

I did too but longer ago. It worked fine for a long time then after one
of the updates it was giving me hell. Went to Avast for a while but it
kept telling me my Rosetta Stone was a virus. Went to MSSE and it has
never had a problem for me. Wife got some bug a couple times but she
plays several online games.

Me too.
But over a year ago I think.
I was getting way too many false positives and AVG were experimenting with
new features I didn't want.

Fair comment. I downloaded the latest [paid for] update last night, and it
didn't start up after the required Windows restart. I started it from the
program menu, and I forced it to update again from the unwanted installed
gadget, and after faltering a couple of times, it ran properly with all the
features working correctly. But some of the settings were reset to the
default values. Something seems to stop it running correctly on reboot, but
once running all appears to be fine. I used the computer a couple of times
earlier today, this being the third time, and all is well.

Don't use it any more. ClamAV is much better.

I moved to f-secure long time ago. Not free but I get free from my
university.

On some home machines I have MSE and it too works fine for me.

Hi, rfdjr1.

MSE = Microsoft Security Essentials

Get your free download here:

I use it and heartily recommend it!
