Autoplay not working...

Hi! I'm at wits end trying to figure out why Autoplay isn't working anymore
on my system. It doesn't matter what settings I use in Start - Control
Panel - AutoPlay it still won't start a game, audio CD, DVD movie or any
CD/DVD media automatically. When I insert a CD/DVD, all that happens is the
drive info in Windows explorer changes from the generic "DVD RW Drive (D"
to whatever CD or DVD that was inserted.

See if this Wizard fixes the problem:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

It is for XP or Windows Server 2003. If you have any other windows then I
am not sure if the wizard is available.

No that didn't do anything. Ran for a bit then popped up a window
saying that the program had stopped and Windows was searching for a
solution. BTW I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, sorry I didn't mention
that before.

This is my reply to an earlier thread about a similar problem:
Have you installed any software recently that could have changed things?
Have you tried a system restore ?
There are a few ideas here (about Vista), maybe one might relate to your problem:

Thanks! That was a big help as it turns out the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutoRun
had somehow been changed to 255, which disables autoplay on all drives.
Changing it's value back to 145 allowed it to start working again.

It might be some security software that had changed the setting.

That's possible, but I don't know for certain. I'm not the only one
that uses this pc, so it's not easy to keep up with what might have
changed, and exactly when that change may have happened. Anyway it's
working now. Thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction
to solve this problem!
