ask.com

Why is it when I go to some of my sites, whether in Firefox (which I use
constantly) or even IE (which I never use) I'm diverted to ask.com? I go to
my cookies and delete ask.com but it always comes back. Evidently one of the
sites I go to is placing this cookie into my browser and forcing me to use
ask.com but I don't know how to eliminate or block this action. Help... I'm
using Win 7 ultimate and Firefox.

Did you install some program that may have set ask.com as your primary
search source? For example, AVG antivirus, during setup, tries to set it to
Yahoo.

Nope. And I have Google as my primary search source.

Go to Control Panel, programs and features and uninstall anything with
Ask.com in it. You probably have an Ask crap tool bar installed even
though you deactivated it.

There are internet providers which will automatically re-direct you to
"their" default search engine, if a requested site is not found.

In many cases this is neither a setting of the OS, nor the browser,
the DNS name servers of some ISPs simply do this automatically:
if name-resolution fails, then redirection to ask.com or any searchengine of
the providers favour.
