There are certain sites, that deal in malware removal. There
are several suggestions here. First, you try to remove it
via "Add/Remove". When that fails with some crappy error,
that's when you try a "larger hammer".

Two ways:

1: spend 10 seconds with Google and discover that it can be uninstalled
from Control Panel.

http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/doc...index.html#na4

2: use common sense and discover that it can be uninstalled from
Control Panel.

I tried a couple of times, from the Control Panel, to get rid of Ask and
each time it came up with a message about whether I wanted to delete a
certain .dll, or something else. I thought the dll, or whatever it was,
might be used by some other program too, so I backed down. I read the
post above and then decided to have another go. This time it did not use
the previous techniques. Instead it has been running for over an hour
with a little window indicating: Please wait for Windows to uninstalls
Toolbar.Obviously the updates has nailed this one down. Now I think I'll
dump IE and use Firefox only.

I had the same trouble with Bing toolbar in Firefox. Each time I edited
the Firefox configuration file back it would come. Fixed it by going to
Internet Options in Control Panel and selected Programs > Manage Add Ons
> Search Providers and where Bing was listed clicked on it and selected

Remove.

Changing browsers might only be a temp fix. Soon enough you'll have
the ask.com toolbar installed in Firefox and then I suppose you'll
move to Chrome. :-)

Thanks Boscoe for your help.

I forgot to add that I use a Win 7 and there seems to be no Manage Add
Ons > > Search Providers.

In Control Panel there is a "Programs - Uninstall a program." That just
pops up a list of all the programs in the computer. The last time I
tried, Ask was in that list. Now it is not. They were smart enough to
remove the Ask from the list of programs and make it more difficult to
remove.

"Manage Addons" is among Internet Explorer's options, not Windows'.

Seum, go to Control Panel, Network and internet > Internet options >
Programs and click in the box 'Manage add-ons'. Under add-on types
click Search Providers.
