i really don't like it.
it can't even copy files right.
i wanted to copy a 300mb folder & after 20minutes i checked it & the destenation was 5Gb!

i tried freecommander & classic shell but they are just a graphical thing. they still use the original Windows 7 file explorer (the original copy window appears).

Total Commander

http://www.ghisler.com/

Quote:
Features in Total Commander 7.55a now include :
  • Two file windows side by side
  • Multiple language and Unicode support
  • Enhanced search function
  • Compare files (now with editor) / synchronize directories
  • Quick View panel with bitmap display
  • ZIP, ARJ, LZH, RAR, UC2, TAR, GZ, CAB, ACE archive handling + plugins
  • Built-in FTP client with FXP (server to server) and HTTP proxy support
  • Parallel port link, multi-rename tool
  • Tabbed interface, regular expressions, history+favorites buttons
  • Thumbnails view, custom columns, enhanced search
  • Compare editor, cursor in lister, separate trees, logging, enhanced overwrite dialog etc.
  • Unicode names almost everywhere, long names (>259 characters), password manager for ftp and plugins, synchronize empty dirs, 64 bit context menu, quick file filter (Ctrl+S)
  • New: USB port connection via special direct transfer cable, partial branch view (Ctrl+Shift+B), and many imporvements to ftp, synchronizing and other functions
  • And many more!
By the way, to copy BIG files, I prefer to use the command prompt. It takes a few seconds.

Eg:
Code:
cd C:\
move file.iso C:\newfolder\file.iso

File explorer doesn't add size to files, it is possible there are hidden system files in the folder.

But if you want a replacement for Windows explorer type "replacement for windows explorer" into the search engine of your choice.

Here are 15 compared ...

I've never used any of them but XYplorer & Total Commander are the only ones I ever heard of.

Trainable man has hit the target. No matter what replacement one may use, if the folder being moved or copied, contains hidden material, it will still take a long time. But 5 + Gbs? Was it a game folder?
I won't dispute it, as I have read many posts on the web referring to the slowness of the copying procedure with Windows 7. I have not experienced it, so it could be related to hardware.
"I would dispute, however "it can't even copy files right."

File and Folder copy speed is, in my opinion, hardware dependent.

Even with a SATA drive to SATA drive about the best transfer speed one will get is about 105-115 MB/s.

Ummm, I don't think you understand the concept of shareware. The term "shareware" in no way implies a product is crippled or limited in any way. It merely means the author has released it for free distribution and free use, and has granted you permission to "share" it with your friends or whoever. There are no obligations to buy, no limits to use, and no expiration dates with shareware. The idea behind "shareware" is the author allows you to use it, then hopes you like it so much you will "donate" to show your appreciation and to help "support" future development. The very popular CCleaner is a good example of that. Other shareware is fully functional but may include ads or other means of getting revenue unless you pay.

There are, however, many programs that fall under other categories that may be causing you some confusion (no doubt by design by product marketing weenies ).

Some programs only allow you to use them for free for 30 days, for example. That is "trialware".

Some limit or gray out functions unless you buy. That is called "crippled", and is another form of trialware. Some disk partition programs, and some so called "optimizers" work that way. They show you what would happen if you paid for the product, or they may only allow you to make 15 changes (out of the hundreds recommended).

Some shareware is fully functional, but offers a "Pro" version for money that has more features.AVG Free is a good example of that. The free version is a fully functional anti-virus program but the makers hope you like it so much you will opt for the full suite.

From: techterms.com
There is commercial software and then there is shareware. With commercial software, you have to pay for the product before you use it.
With shareware, you can use the product for a trial period and then decide if you want to keep it. If you want to keep the software after the trial period is up, you're supposed to (and should) register the product and pay the shareware fee.
As an extra incentive to pay for the software, many shareware programs disable certain features in the non-registered version and some will keep bugging you to register the program after the trial period has expired.

Shareware programs are usually less expensive than commercial software programs, but they are usually less expensive to develop as well.
This is why shareware programs are typically not as robust as commercial software programs.
However, there are numerous shareware programs out there, such as system utilities, that can be very useful.
The most common way to get shareware these days is off the Internet.
Check out C|net's Shareware.com for a huge selection of these great little programs.

From: Wikipedia
Shareware is usually offered either with certain features only available after the license is purchased, or as a full version but for a limited trial period of time.
Once the trial period has passed the program may stop running until a license is purchased.
Shareware is often offered without supports or updates which only become available with the purchase of a license.
The words "free trial" or "trial version" are indicative of shareware.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I still use Xplorer2 Lite and it works without any issues in Win 7 64-bit.

Here's the link, if you're interested .. xplorer² Lite 1.8.0.13
