Simply I use
Microsoft Security Essentials for antiVirus and antiSpyware
And in my personal opinion that's all one needs (if at all),
it's small and not so resourcekilling as many others...

http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

After installing, it will disable Defender as it replaces it
and security essentials has definitions for "spyware" and "viruses".

I prefer not to use MS tools. They have proved themselves
to be less than "worried" about my security in the past and
other utilities have proved themselves to be far better.

I mean no offense to your post. I have just found MS
to be less than stellar when it comes to security.
