[SOLVED] another RAM issue

i am using a windows 7 ultimate 32 bit
i have 4 giga of RAM but when i see how much RAM is on my computer it told me that
installed memory: 4 GB(2.75 GB usable)

where the rest of my RAM??

In Windows 7 32-bit it will only use up to 3.25 GB of RAM, that's the limit set by the Windows 7 programmers in 32-bit version.

As far as the 32-bit editions of Windows 7 are concerned, the limit continues to be 4 GB of RAM. However, even if Windows 7 correctly reports all 4 GB of RAM installed on a machine, the 32-bit versions of the platform will not be able to address all of it.

If you have an onboard video chipset on the motherboard it will use up RAM also, whereas if it was a separate video card the RAM would not be used at all since all video cards have their own RAM. Since your usable RAM is about a 1/2 GB shy of the 3.25GB usable then the video is using about 512MB for it's own use.

thanks Nibiru but i was using 2 GB RAM and the usable was 1.75 GB when i put another 2 GB RAM the usable is 2.75 from 4 GB

In hiding until you clean install 64 bit Windows 7.

The total amount of memory that can be addressed in 32 bit includes the video card's memory.

32-bit Windows can only offer the user about 3GB of RAM. No matter how much you have installed, that's the limit. Your onboard GPU is subtracting 256MB from that, leaving you with 2.75GB.

If you want to use the rest of your RAM, install 64-bit.

mon4012, all of the above advice is 100% correct. If your computer can run it, and you really want to see your 4GB of installed RAM, go 64 bit. You won't regret it.

If you want to unlock the full potential of your CPU, RAM and motherboard then install the x64 version of Windows 7.

You can use the same product key for the x64 version.
