Put it in
C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

C:\Users\All Users... Access denied.

What are you doing when that message appears?

Two suggestions:

1) Use the path
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
instead of the one given by Gene. (For most purposes they are
equivalent, except when you need them <grin>.) The path I've given
is the "real" path; sometimes using a symlink results
in "access denied" messages. Not knowing the exact context
of the message you got I don't know if this will help.

2) Create the shortcut on your desktop, then open the target
folder and drag the file's icon into the target folder.
Depending on how you have UAC configured you may be
challenged twice for permission to do the move.

You might also get an idea of why the reject message is appearing by looking
at the security settings for the folder. I wouldn't recommend giving
"everyone" full control of the folder but if all else fails, as a temporary
workaround that you later remove you might want to consider giving your
userid full control, installing the shortcut, then reverting the access
control list to its original settings.

Click Start, All Programs, R-Click on Startup, select "Open All Users".
Paste or drag and drop your shortcuts into the window that opens.

There are quite a few ways to do things in Windows (certainly too many
to keep track of), but I like yours :-)

Maybe I'll remember it?

OK. I didn't have that problem, but it looks like we both can learn from
the other replies posted here.

A thought or two:
1. I run an administrator-type account. Maybe that matters.
2. Did you try just pasting my path into the address bar of Windows
Explorer?

Worked great!

I'll keep this one on file.

Thanks Joe! Spot on.

Me, too.

No, I didn't--until just now--and that seems to work just
fine! So I tried clicking thru the directories the way I
tried the other day, and *it* worked fine, also! I have no
idea what's going on here--unless I'm just plain loosing it.

Thanks.
