I just purchased a laptop with Windows 7 64 bit OS

Now one of the programs I use is Solid Works 32 bit.How can I get this to work or can I simply roll back my OS to 32 bit?

Thank you for any suggestions

Regards
Roger

Have you tried installing it on your system?

Nearly all 32-bit programs will run on the Windows 7 64-bit system.

Thanks for the info. Yes I installed it but couldn't start it since it would tell me it doesn't work on Vista or 7 64 bit, but I finally succeeded by having the OS trouble shoot and make it work as an older software. then I saved the parameters.
Since then I have booted the program a few times and it works perfectly.. Still a lot of learning with this new system....

Thanks any way for taking the time to answer

Roger

No Problem! Glad to see you here as a new member!

I should have thought of the "Run as ...." slipped my mind though.

Yes, Windows 7 is a new learning curve but after several weeks you'll never want to go back to the older Windows operating systems.

You probably know where it is now but for anyone who may find this thread ...
Should you ever need to try an older program in compatibility mode it can be accessed by right-clicking on the program (exe) in windows explorer and selecting properties, then the compatibility tab. Set it to the most recent OS where the program functioned properly, such as XP SP3 or Vista SP2, then save and try executing the program.

There is no reason you shouldn't be able to look at the filenames on the disc; I'm not sure how you are attempting to do that but if you open windows explorer you should be able to see the filenames. If it automatically tries to run when you insert the software then you may need to close that but you should be able to see the filenames in windows explorer.

Unfortunately, I do not believe you will get that program to work, even in compatibility mode; most likely because it tries to reference resources in a way no longer supported. You may be able to buy updated software from the manufacturer or you might be able to get it to run in a virtual XP environment but I don't know that for sure (if you have W7 Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise then Microsoft's version of Virtual PC - XP mode is available for free download).

Is the headset from Microsoft as well? Please specify the make and model of headset and (I assume) a USB? receiver that wirelessly connects to the earpiece. Also what is the exact name and version of the software? There may be new drivers to allow the ear-piece and receiver to function in W7 and Microsoft has likely upgraded or replaced the Live Chat (I found something in my searches called Life Chat so please clarify it is Live Chat along with version).

Thank you for the response, for some reason, I can't find anywhere Windows Explorer on this new Windows Home Premium.

As for the ear piece, The whole thing came as a package by Microsoft. The USB part is "Microsoft XBox Wireless Receiver fro Windows" with the software Microsoft Life Chat 1.0

Thanks for taking the time to help me, I appreciate it.

Roger
