Hello,

Can one select 32-bit mode under Windows 7 (64-bit) running on a 64-bit processor? And if so, is that a solution for program's that run on a 32-bit processor?

Kind regards,

Guido Pipers

No, there's no "32-bit mode" exactly. Most 32-bit programs run just fine natively under Win7 x64. However, if you come across one that does not, you can try right-clicking its shortcut, selecting Properties, Compatibility, and enabling compatibility mode for, say, XP SP2 or something.

Microsoft also offers an "XP Mode" as an additional (free) download, which may help you run older software. You can read more about it here.

Don't you have to have the Pro or Ultimate version to run XP Mode?

Yes, you do. The only other way is that VMLite program, which I would recommend to no one. It's not stable and makes your computer act weird at times. The only reason that I tried it was to help another forum member run his printer for his occupation. I spent 10 or 12 hours trying to make it work for his benefit, but to no avail. Then, to totally remove it from my PC, I had to reinstall my OS. It's not worth fooling around with. And also, Windows Virtual PC with XP Mode works only with certain processors.
