32 bit to 64 bit

Currently running Windows 7 Professional. All going well but want to move from 32 bit to 64 bit (computer details say ÿes" computer is 64 bit capable.
I want to be able to use Windows XP as well as Windows 7 Professional to run Microsoft Photo Story 3.
What do I have to do? Have tried to download XP but need to run 64 bit?

Be sure to download all the correct 64-bit drivers for your system BEFORE you install the 64-bit Windows 7. Store them on a thumb drive, external hard drive or on a CD-RW rewritable CD disc.

You MAY NOT need XP, see if the MS Photo Story will install on Windows 7.

Nan, welcome to the forum! Nibiru is absolutely correct in his findings. The app that you want to run may very well work with Windows 7.

Being that you wish to install Windows 7 Pro, entitles you to Windows Virtual PC with XP Mode. While you can do this, there's one thing that you need to know. You need a minimum of 3GB RAM to do this, 4GB would be even better. The reason for this is, the virtual machine (XP Mode) needs to "borrow" RAM from your main install to run, and your regular install needs a minimum of 2GB to run. And when I'm referring to "minimums" here, that's exactly what they are. Enough to get by.

If your program won't run on Windows 7, you can setup a dual boot, where you have your full system power for each OS. I've had several virtual machines of different brands, and the look and feel of the virtual OS is NOT that of one that's a regular install.

What you can do, to see if your program will run in Windows 7, is run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. It can be found at:

Microsoft Phot story 3 is used by one of my family members in Windows 7 64Bit - running 100%. He uses it frequently to compose programs for dynamic photo frames.

Since you have Professional you might also look into Virtual PC - XP mode to run any programs that aren't W7 compatible.

So compiling all the answers so far ...
- Go ahead and download the ISO (if you don't have the 64bit Pro DVD) and switch to 64
- Microsoft Photo Story 3 is compatible with W7 (x86 and x64). See compatibility center HERE.
- almost any XP program not compatible with W7 can be run in the free Virtual PC - XP mode.

Have been successful in downloading Windows XP and also Photo Story 3 - all seems to be okay but the PS3 Screen will not maximise.
Any suggestions.

I am finding several search matches asking if it is possible to maximize and the only answers given are "NO", so it may not be possible, even from Microsoft support . But for slide shows etc you can use media center in full screen (When you open Media Center the "My Videos" folder contains all your videos and photo stories by default). See the Microsoft PS3 FAQ.
